The designer of this piece is Martina Hamilton. Here is the reason why she designed this piece
I'm from Sligo. Sligeach "ás Geilge" means the Shelly Place. The prehistory of Sligo is replete with shellfish midden sites indicating shellfish have played a big part in sustaining our culture here in the northwest of Ireland over thousands of years. Shell's themselves can be objects of simplest natural beauty and adornment since culure began. So, all in all I think a collection emulating the humble shell is a must for a jewellery designer from Sligo.
Each piece of Martina Hamiltons bespoke sterling silver and gold Irish jewellery is designed handcrafted in our Goldsmiths studio in Sligo, Ireland and hallmarked under the stringent quality conditions of the Assay Office of Ireland. This Irish hallmark is recognised around the world as your guarantee of the highest quality precious metal and Irish craftsmanship.
